
The announcement of the end of combat operations in Iraq reminded me of this poem I wrote at the beginning of that war.

There he sits as usual,
alone with his innermost [...]
Seems Like Old Times
Wandering back down the paths of my mind
through aromas and sounds of another time,
anticipation tingling along my spine
as unseen eyes watch every stride…
Old friends have come to [...]
When my father left
I was all of three years old
And when he left he kissed me
He said be good
And I’ll see ya when I get home

There is a place in this great nation
Where soldiers stand in solemn formation
A wall of stone black as death
Engraved with names who drew their last breath
The Black Wall of Death [...]
The Good Life
Granddad’s prime has passed;
His ambitions much less bold,
The passions of his youth
Lie serenely on his soul.

As he sits there quietly at ease;
